Apply Now for Graduate Studies:

If you have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent and want to take courses for graduate credit, whether or not you desire to become a candidate for a degree, you must submit a formal application for admission to graduate study. No action is taken until a file is complete. You will be notified by mail of the action taken.

Attention: If you have previously enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Tennessee OR have submitted an application within the past 12 months DO NOT COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION.

If you have submitted an application for graduate study within the past 12 months but did not enroll, it will be necessary to contact our office to update and reactivate the application.

If you have a current application and wish to make a change, DO NOT COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION. Please contact our office to request the change.

To apply for admission, submit the following materials to Graduate Admissions:

1.The completed Graduate Application for Admission.

- APPLY ONLINE to the University of Tennessee.

- Download the graduate application in Adobe Acrobat format.

-Request an application by e-mailing graduateadmissions@utk.edu.


2.A $35 non-refundable application fee in the form of a personal check, cashier's check, money order or bank draft payable to the University of Tennessee. The fee must accompany the application. If completing the online application, the application fee must be paid online using a credit card.


3.One official transcript from all colleges and universities attended.


4.Official scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if your native language is not English (refer to catalog section on English Certification). Institutional code is 1843.

Additional departmental/program requirements (Refer to Programs of Study or Majors and Degree Programs chart in front of Graduate Catalog) may include:

1. Departmental application. Contact the program for forms.
2. Letters of recommendation or rating forms. Graduate Admissions has a standard rating form, but some programs prefer letters of recommendation. Contact the program to determine which is acceptable.
3. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Our institutional code is 1843.
You can obtain application forms for the above tests by contacting: Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 08450. Examination results reach the University in approximately six weeks.

All documents submitted become the property of the University and will not be returned.

The application fee is non-refundable.
