Non-Degree, Visiting & Dual Enrollment Students

Non-degree Seeking Student
A student who already has been awarded a Bachelor's degree and does not want to obtain another undergraduate degree may take classes as a Non-degree Seeking Student. Non-degree Seeking students are not eligible to receive Financial Aid.

College Visiting Student
A student who attends another college or university as a full time student in good standing and who intends to return to that college may attend UT for one semester as a Visiting Student.

High School Visiting or Dual Enrollment Student
High school students may attend UT as part-time visiting students or dual enrollment students with the permission of their parents, principal, and school counselor, and the approval of the Director of Admissions.

Non-degree Seeking Students
Persons who have earned a bachelor's degree may apply for admission as non-degree students. If you have previously enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, you will need to complete the Readmission Application.
Non-degree applicants must set up a UT VIP account, use it to complete and submit the non-degree application online, and pay the $30 application fee electronically by the folowing deadlines:
- Fall – August 5
- Spring – December 5
- Summer (1st and Full Sessions) – May 15
- Summer (2nd Session) – June 15
Availability of courses is not guaranteed, and early application will help to ensure that the applicant will be able to register for desired courses.
The online timetable of classes has lists of classes with class times for upcoming semesters. Courses that have prerequisites may not be available to non-degree students without proof that prerequisite college coursework has been completed.
Non-degree students who later decide to pursue a degree program at UT must submit an application for undergraduate or graduate admission.
Note: If you plan to enroll as a non-degree student prior to applying for graduate admission at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the courses that you complete as a non-degree student will not count toward your intended graduate degree.
Note: Non-degree students are not eligible to receive federal or state financial aid or merit-based or need-based scholarships from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
College Visiting Students
Step 1: Complete and submit the online application.
Set up your UT VIP account and use it to complete and submit the online application for college visiting students. You must also pay the $30 application fee electronically.
Be sure to apply by the appropriate deadline.
Step 2: Send a letter of good standing or college transcript.
Ask the registrar of the institution you currently attend to send a letter of good standing or college transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

High School Visiting & Dual Enrollment Students
A high school visiting student or dual enrollment student is currently enrolled in high school and seeks to enroll part-time at UT based on his/her academic ability and educational need. High school visiting and dual enrollment students should have a minimum 3.0 high school grade point average. Applications are subject to review, and admission is not guaranteed.
A student who is a Tennessee resident will:
- Complete and submit online the Dual Enrollment Grant Application (DEGA) instead of the Application for Admission, AND
- Print and have the Dual Credit Academic Verification Form completed and mailed to the Admissions Office by a high school official.

A student who is not a Tennessee resident must submit the Application for Undergraduate Admission along with the application fee, official high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, and written permission by his/her parents and the school principal or counselor. Applicants must indicate in the online application that they are high school visiting students.
