Residency Classification

Residency Classification

Determining whether you are classified as "in-state" or "out-of-state" is important because it determines what you will pay for tuition. For more information on residency, please visit the Registrar's Office Web site and read the official Residency Classification Guide.

All inquiries regarding residency should be made to:

Residency Classifier
Office of the Registrar

Knoxville, TN 37996
(865) 974-1189

Residency Appeals

  • The Assistant Dean of Enrollment Servicesserves as an ex officio, non-voting member
  • Four administrators
  • Nine faculty members
  • Four students (two undergraduates, two graduates)

» UT is a member of the Academic Common Market.

The Academic Common Market is an agreement among Southern states for sharing unique programs. Participating states can make arrangements for their residents who are fully admitted to specific programs at UT to enroll on an in-state tuition basis if these programs are not available in the state of residence. Information about ACM is available from the Southern Regional Education Board's website. Email us for more information about ACM eligible courses of study at UT.
