Transcript Policy

Transcripts must be official, affixed with the issuing school's seal or signature, and must be mailed directly from the school. UT does not accept transcripts issued to the student, mailed by the student, faxed, or hand-delivered to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Transcripts may not be faxed, hand delivered, or mailed by the student.

Transcripts should be mailed to:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions & Records
320 Student Services Building
Knoxville, TN 37996-0230

International transcripts must be in English or be accompanied by an official English translation.

Evaluation of Transfer Credit

College transcripts are evaluated after a student is admitted to the University. When the evaluation is complete (several weeks after the student is admitted), the student receives by mail a written confirmation of the evaluation detailing transfer credit received.

If UT offers an equivalent course to one taken at another institution, the student will receive credit for the UT course.

Transfer credit is only granted for courses in which a grade of "C" or better was earned, except where an articulation agreement is completed. For repeated courses, the last attempt is calculated only if repeated at the same institution. Courses not repeated at the same institution will be calculated in the overall GPA for admission. Transfer grade averages are calculated by UT and may differ from averages calculated by other institutions.

Students transferring to UT must earn at least 60 semester hours of credit at a four-year college or university and the last 30 semester hours of credit at UT.

Information is available for Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or International Baccalaureate (IB) credit.

» May I attach a résumé to my application? Yes. You will have the opportunity to enclose an optional personal statement that might address special circumstances or activities not covered by your transcript. You may also include a résumé or list of extracurricular activities.

» Can't I just drop off a copy of my transcript? No. Transcripts must be sealed, signed, and mailed by the issuing institution. We do not accept transcripts that are delivered by students—whether by hand, by fax, by email, or by postal service.
