Transfer Credits
Transfer Credit Policy
The University of Tennessee will accept transfer credit of similar content from accredited institutions. Coursework that leads to the Applied Science degree from Career/Technical programs is not transferable.
Transfer credit will be granted for courses in which a grade of “D” or better was earned. Transfer grade point averages are calculated by UT based on all college work attempted and may differ from averages calculated by other institutions.
In some instances coursework will transfer as elective credits and those credits will count toward the overall hours required for graduation.
Please visit the Registrar's website for additional information about evaluation of college transcripts and course evaluations.
Transcript Policy & Evaluation of Transfer Credit
Transcript Policy
Transcripts must be official and must be mailed directly from the school to UT. UT does not accept transcripts issued to the student, mailed by the student, faxed, or hand-delivered. Transcripts should be mailed to:
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
320 Student Services Building
Knoxville, TN 37996-0230
Transcripts of college coursework completed outside of the US must be submitted for evaluation by a company indicated on the webpage for International applicants. Admission decisions and assignment of transfer credit will be based upon that evaluation.
Evaluation of Transfer Credit
College transcripts are evaluated after a student is admitted to the University. When the evaluation is complete (two to three weeks after the student is admitted), the applicant's transfer credit evaluation will be posted online at the time that the course timetable for the intended entry term is available online (summer– mid-February; fall– mid-March; spring– mid-October).
If UT offers an equivalent course to one taken at another institution, the student will receive credit for the UT course.
Transfer credit will be granted for courses in which a grade of “D” or better was earned. Transfer grade point averages are calculated by UT based on all college work attempted and may differ from averages calculated by other institutions.
Students transferring to UT must earn at least 60 semester hours of credit at a four-year college or university and the last 30 semester hours of credit at UT. The official UT Knoxville grade point average is based only on coursework completed at UT Knoxville and does not include transfer grades.
