Why Choose UT

Why Choose UT?

Deciding whether a University is the best fit for you and your future plans is a challenging process, to say the least. We'd like to convince you that UT is the best choice for your future.

Because you want a strong education.

The University of Tennessee has shaped the future of higher education for over 200 years. We are among the top-ranked national public universities in the country. That's because we are dedicated to ensuring that students get a strong education that will help them meet their professional goals. By offering over 170 majors, concentrations, and specializations from which to choose, we offer a broad educational base, nationally recognized scholars and researchers, and premier teaching facilities.

Because you want an affordable education.

The estimated yearly cost for a full-time student living on campus with a meal plan is just over $15,000 for an in-state student and just over $30,000 for an out-of-state student. With such a competitive cost, the University of Tennessee has been consistently ranked as one of the best values for a college education. In addition, UT graduates have one of the lowest debt ratios upon graduation in the country.

Because you want professional opportunities.

We realize that college is a bridge to the real world, and we are committed to making as many bridges as possible for students. Through our Career Services Center, we offer numerous internships, co-op opportunities, part-time, and full-time positions. The center also helps students polish their presentation and interview skills. Career Services even offers several job fairs, where regional and national companies come to campus to recruit new employees.

Because you want to meet new people.

The University of Tennessee has a diverse student body, with students from every state and from over 90 countries. While academic education is important, you can also learn a great deal from other students. With over 300 student organizations on campus, you will have many opportunities to bond with students who share a particular interest. We also encourage our students to expand their horizons both within and beyond our university community. The International House, the Black Cultural Center, and the Center for International Education offer a variety of programs and services for all students to do just that and provide you with a cultural education as well. UT's Ready for the Worldinitiative helps transform the campus into a culture that best prepares students for working and competing in the 21st century.

Because you want to have fun while you learn.

School spirit is a big part of the UT tradition. From the orange-flooded football games to the VolWalk to the on-campus concerts to All Sing, students get involved on campus and have fun doing it. Through the Central Programming Council, a variety of activities are planned throughout the year so that students can have an enjoyable social life in addition to a strong academic curriculum.

Because you want the best all-around college experience you can have!

The University of Tennessee is a place for students to grow and flourish intellectually, socially, and culturally. We are dedicated to ensuring student success, which is demonstrated through support services such as The Writing Center, free tutorial services, and classes such as First Year Studies 101, FYS 129 (Freshman Seminar), and Life of the Mind. There are numerous ways for students to get involved on campus. To ease the social transition to college life, check out the services and programs offered by the Student Success Center and the Student Counseling Center. » Not Just Another Number

Each fall, UT admits a freshman class of a size to maintain a total undergraduate enrollment of approximately 21,000 students. Yes, that's a large number—but we also have a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1, as well as many avenues for support and resources to help keep you from being "just another number."
