Building the Global Community
When you come to UT, you'll automatically be a part of the wider university community. As you narrow your focus, you will become a part of a college community, as well as a departmental community. You'll even become part of a community of your peers—other students whose academic and career interests match your own. You may choose to live in one of our living learning communities, you may opt for Greek life, you may participate in intramural athletics, or you may decide to start your own campus organization.
The University of Tennessee would like to help you expand your horizons beyond our campus—not only to help prepare you for a future as a member of the global community, but also to help bring the global community to UT. Here are a few ways to start building your future by engaging in communities and activities that promote a culture of diversity, awareness of differences, and an array of experiences guaranteed to broaden your horizons and the horizons of our university community at large.
Ready for the World
Are you ready to watch? Ready to listen? Ready to go? Ready for the World is part of a long-range plan to transform the campus into a culture of diversity that best prepares students for working and competing in the 21st century. Many campus-wide opportunities are associated with this initiative, including films, concerts, conversations, seminars, and more. Get ready for your future—get ready for the world!
Black Cultural Center
The Black Cultural Center (BCC) is a gathering place for all students to enjoy programs and activities that promote awareness of African American culture and foster an atmosphere of interaction, participation, and understanding among students of all cultural backgrounds.
Center for International Education
The Center for International Education (CIE) is the office that provides students with information about overseas study, research, work, volunteer projects, and travel.
International House
The I-House is a place to meet and learn about people of diverse cultures through participation in dance lessons, cooking and culture nights, language tables, an international film series, and "global hour" discussions.

When you see this logo, pay attention. It indicates an event that is part of UT's Ready for the World initiative.
Are you on Facebook? If so, there's a new Ready for the World group to join. It's a good way to keep up with events at I-House and other places around campus.
The Coffee House is a program sponsored by I-House, and is designed to promote social interaction between everyone in the university community. All are welcome to join the conversation!
