My hometown is...
St. Joseph, Missouri

How long have I been at UT?
29 years

My favorite thing about being Director of Undergraduate Academic Achievement...
As a faculty member (Earth & Planetary Sciences) and former director of the Governor’s school for the Sciences, Science Olympiad, Academic Decathlon, and University Honors Program, I enjoy creative problem solving and working with current and prospective students to discover outstanding opportunities.  UT has much to offer the top students in Tennessee, across the nation, and around the world, and sharing information about our great programs is exciting.

My favorite UT campus tradition...
Dance Marathon:  I’ll never win any awards for dancing, but the hard work and dedication of UT students to raise money for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is one of UT’s great traditions that highlights our Volunteer Spirit.

My favorite UT website...
UT Honors!   I hope everyone visits this site to see the wide range of courses and programs that can really customize a student’s college experience at UT.  Okay, I have one more, the Center for International Education.  The Knoxville campus is a great place for cultural opportunities offered by the Center, plus great resources to plan a study abroad.  Check the awesome images in the “photo gallery.”

Knoxville “Must Do and/or See” Locations
Annual festivals in the Knoxville area, including the HOLA! Knoxville Hispanic Heritage Festival at Market Square Mall, the Dogwood Arts Festival all over town in the spring, the Greek Festival at the St. George Church, the Rossini Festival, the International Festival on campus, and many more regional and international events.  If you like great food and music, don’t miss these.

What I do in my "free" time...
Yard work (cutting brush, digging stumps, eating my home-grown tomatoes), travel, snorkeling and scuba diving

What makes UT such a great place?
There is so much here.  Our own unique combination of great academic programs, hundreds of social and recreational opportunities, and the beauty of East Tennessee make UT a terrific place to live and to learn from colleagues and students.
