Still need to file? Here are your next steps

If you haven’t filed your FAFSA, you still have time! We encourage you to submit your FAFSA with UT’s federal school code (003530) as soon as possible. Frequently asked questions, resources, and more information can be found on One Stop’s FAFSA page.

Remember that you and your parent(s)/guardian(s) will need to use individual Federal Student Aid (FSA) IDs to file, which can take up to three days to receive. FSA IDs can be created here

IN-STATE STUDENTS: Please mark UT Knoxville as the first choice institution for the HOPE Scholarship in the TSAC portal to receive the most accurate estimate of state financial aid (HOPE, GAMS, etc.).

Don’t forget to plug in to our FAFSA resources for additional support and help with the filing process!

Already filed? Here’s what you can expect

If you have already filed the FAFSA, great—there is nothing else you need to do right now! You can check your FAFSA application status at any time, but for now, you cannot make changes or updates to your application. Federal Student Aid (FSA) anticipates that you will be able to login and make any updates or changes to your FAFSA in late March or early April. You will receive an email notification from FSA when this happens.

Find Your FAFSA Status

  1. Log into StudentAid.gov. You can locate your FAFSA status update in the “My Activity” section of your Dashboard.

2. Click on the “My Activity” section. On this page you can see your Open and Closed cases and applications. Under “Open” at the top of the page, you’ll see your 2024-2025 FAFSA Form listed. Underneath the title of that form you’ll see your Status Review and submission date.

3. You can click on your FAFSA Application to see the Status Tracker and get a detailed view of your status updates. You can keep an eye on this page to find out when your FAFSA has been processed!

What Does My Status Mean?

  • In Review: Your FAFSA has been submitted but has not yet been processed by Federal Student Aid (FSA).
  • Action Required: Your FAFSA has been processed, but you are missing your consent and approval or signature. Federal Student Aid (FSA) anticipates that you will be able to login and make any updates or changes to your FAFSA in late March or early April. You will receive an email notification when this happens.
  • Processed: Your application has been processed successfully and no further action is needed. UT will receive your processed FAFSA later this spring.

Don’t see your status update listed above? Learn more about other status updates by visiting the Student Aid FAFSA Submission Summary Page.

UT should begin to receive FAFSA applications from FSA in late spring. We know you’re ready to find out what financial aid offers you may be eligible for as part of this process. As soon as we receive completed student FAFSA applications, we will work diligently to provide each student with their personalized financial aid offer. We will keep you updated on this process and will send you an email when this happens!
