The University of Tennessee, Knoxville received a high volume of applications every year, and as such, our admissions process is competitive and academically selective. Due to the limited space available on campus, not all applicants will be offered admission. Each applicant is important to us and is reviewed at least twice by the admissions committee using a holistic review process. It is unlikely for the admission appeal committee to grant an admissions appeal because of the thorough application review process. UT only considers granting an appeal if new and compelling information is provided.
To Request An Appeal
Please send a request summarizing the new and compelling information that you feel impacts your admissions decision to admissionsappeals@utk.edu. All requests to appeal must be written by the student and received by March 3, 2023. Please allow 2-3 weeks for an initial review of your appeal request.
Next Steps
- You will receive an update on your request within 2-3 weeks.
- Your request will either:
- Move forward in the appeal request process
- Be denied
If your request moves forward in the appeal request process, you must complete the appeal form in your Go Vols Portal under the Resources tab. This appeal form does require additional documentation. More information can be found in the Go Vols Portal. This form must be completed by April 7, 2023. Students can expect to receive an appeal decision by April 14, 2023. All decisions are final.
Future Transfer Opportunities
It is unlikely for the admission appeal committee to fully grant an admissions appeal because of the thorough application review process. If you begin the pursuit of your academic and career goals at another university, we hope you will consider applying as a transfer student to complete your degree at UT.
