Next Steps for
International Students

Once you’ve been admitted, there are several things you need to take care of before arriving on campus. A few key items are listed below. More information on these steps and a complete checklist of the tasks you need to complete before orientation are available on your MyUTK account.

Locate Your NetID

You can locate your NetID and Student ID in your Go Vols Portal. You will need both to create your login and password in order to confirm your enrollment. Your NetID gives you access to university applications and services—including MyUTK, Canvas, and VolMail—and allows you to register for classes. Set up your online accounts here.

Need help with your NetID?

Contact the Help Desk at 865-974-9900.

Confirm Your Enrollment

Log into your Go Vols Portal and navigate to the “Next Steps” tab. Click on the “Confirm your enrollment,” checklist item and pay the $250 deposit online. The deposit is nonrefundable and nontransferable, but the great news is that it will be credited toward your first semester costs.

  • Nov. 1: Confirmation deadline for students entering in Spring.
  • Apr. 1: Confirmation deadline for students entering in Summer.
  • May 15: Confirmation deadline for students entering in Fall.

Fulfill Immigration Requirements (F-1 VISA Applicants Only)

If you will be studying on a student visa (F-1), International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will help you navigate the visa application process. Visit the incoming international student page to learn more about this process.

Review Your Housing Options

  • Shortly after you confirm your enrollment, University Housing will email you step-by-step instructions for completing the housing contract, so be sure to check your VolMail account.
  • First-year students are required to live in university residence halls.
  • As an international student, you have the flexibility to choose between on-campus and off-campus housing options. However, it’s important to note that securing on-campus housing is not always guaranteed due to high demand. Please contact housing@utk.edu for more information.
  • If you are starting your degree program after enrolling in the UT English Language Institute (ELI), you are not required to live on campus but are encouraged to do so.

For all questions about housing, please contact 865-974-2571 or housing@utk.edu or visit housing.utk.edu.

Submit Immunization Records

All incoming students are required to submit immunization records to the Student Health Center. Students living on campus are not allowed to move in until these records are submitted.

Register for Orientation

You will participate in two orientation programs to help you acclimate to campus life and culture:

All new students are required to attend the New Vol Orientation program. Be sure to register for this fun event for all incoming students! Visit orientation.utk.edu for more information.

Admitted Students FAQs

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about submitting test scores and transcripts once you are an admitted student. Remember, our team is always here to help if you have further questions. Give us a call at 865-974-1111 or email us at admissions@utk.edu.

How do I confirm enrollment?

Log into your Go Vols Portal and click the “Confirm my enrollment” checklist item to pay the non-refundable and non-transferrable $250 confirmation deposit.

If I decline enrollment after I pay the confirmation deposit, can I get a refund?

No, our confirmation deposit is non-refundable.

Why do I need to submit my final high school transcript and/or official test scores?

It is important for the university to receive your final high school transcript and/or official test scores so we can verify the information submitted on your application for admission. Incorrect information can affect things like your financial aid or even your admission as a whole.

I submitted my high school transcript and test scores on my Go Vols Portal. Why do I have to do it again?

Undergraduate Admissions must be able to verify information you self-reported on your application using your final high school transcript and official test scores to finalize your financial aid and admission to UT.

What happens if I do not submit my final high school transcript and/or official test scores?

If we do not receive your final high school transcript and official test scores, you will not receive scholarships or financial aid and risk losing your admission status.

How do I turn in my final high school transcript?

Your final high school transcript will need to come directly from your high school guidance counselor.

How can my high school guidance counselor submit my final high school transcript?

Mail an official transcript in a sealed envelope to the following address:

University of Tennessee Undergraduate Admissions
320 Student Services Building
1331 Circle Park
Knoxville, TN 37996

How do I submit my official test scores?

Request the ACT or SAT to send scores to our office. You can ask your testing agency to send your official scores straight to us for a monetary fee.

  • Upload to your Go Vols Portal. If you have your official test scores, you can upload them to your Go Vols Portal! Please allow 48 hours for us to receive them. If you experience difficulty or do not see them in the portal after 48 hours, please complete the “Test Score Submission Information” form on the GPA & Test tab in your portal.
  • Send with your final high school transcript. You can ask your school counselor to attach your official test scores to your transcript so they’re bundled together.

Who do I contact for my official test scores?

Visit the ACT or SAT website and follow the directions provided to request your official test scores to be sent to Undergraduate Admissions.

What if I can’t turn in my high school transcript and my official test scores by July 1?

If you know that your documents won’t be available prior to July 1, please follow the below steps:

  1. Log into your Go Vols Portal.
  2. Navigate to the “GPA & Test” tab.
  3. Fill out the form under “Delayed Final High School Transcript Submission.”

How do I know when my transcript and official test scores have arrived?

You will know we have received your final high school transcript when the checklist item on your Go Vols Portal under “Next Steps” has a green checkmark next to it.

You will know we have received your official test scores when you navigate to the “GPA & Test” tab on your Go Vols Portal and see a “Verified” next to your submitted test scores.
