Next Steps: Transfer Admitted Students

Congratulations on your admission! We’re happy to welcome you to the Volunteer family.

Once you’ve been admitted, there are several things you need to take care of before arriving on campus. A few key items are listed below.

More information on these steps and a complete checklist of the tasks you need to complete before orientation are available on your MyUTK account.

Step 1: Confirm your enrollment.

Log in to your Go Vols Portal and pay the enrollment deposit online. The deposit is nonrefundable and nontransferable, but the great news is that it will be credited toward your first semester costs. Detailed step-by-step instructions are located in the enrollment checklist on your Go Vols Portal.

Step 2: Review your transfer credit evaluation.

College transcripts are evaluated after you are admitted to the university.  Credit evaluations are typically completed within four weeks of your date of admission with priority given to confirmed students.

You may access your completed transfer credit evaluation in MyUTK under Academic Resources – Academic History.

Please review your credit evaluation carefully and bring a copy with you to orientation to discuss with your academic advisor.

For questions about your credit evaluations, contact the transfer evaluators at utktransfereval@utk.edu or 865-946-3864.

Step 3: Complete your housing contract.

Shortly after you confirm your enrollment, University Housing will email you step-by-step instructions for completing the housing contract, so be sure to check your VolMail account.

Transfer students are not required to live on campus but are strongly encouraged to do so.

For all questions about housing, please contact 865-974-2571 or housing@utk.edu or visit utk.edu.

Step 4. Submit the FAFSA.

Update your previously filed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to include UT Knoxville as your first-choice college/university.

Submit the FAFSA each year at fafsa.gov. UT’s federal code is 003530. Submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1.

Step 5. Register for orientation.

All new students are required to attend orientation, and special sessions are held throughout the year for transfer students. Review the dates for transfer orientation and register for a session prior to your term of enrollment.

During orientation, you will be advised and register for classes. You can review the course catalog. Before the beginning of each academic term, you can view semester class offerings and schedules in the online timetable.
