Frequently Asked Questions
Pathway Requirements & Enrollment Next Steps
Can I take all online classes as a Rocky Top Transfer participant if I live out-of-state and want to stay home?
This depends on your intended major, standardized test scores and final high school GPA. All online math courses and some other online courses require on-site testing, and some courses are not offered online at all. If you live outside of a reasonable driving distance to Knoxville and want to be fully online at Pellissippi State CC, we encourage you to speak with Pellissippi State CC advising to discuss your options. You may email Patricia Moore at pemoore1@pstcc.edu for assistance.
What are the minimum GPA and earned credit requirements I need to successfully transfer to UT?
Students are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 and must complete a minimum of 24 transferable earned credit hours.
Earned hours are defined as credits obtained for successfully passing a course. Courses with a grade of F, withdrawals, or in progress do not count as earned hours.
Transfer credit will be granted only for college level non-remedial courses in which a grade of D- or better was earned. However, many programs require a grade of C or higher.
What if I do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement or haven’t earned 24 transferable hours before transferring to UT?
Students who do not meet the pathway program transfer requirements – whether due to GPA, credit hours, or both – will be reviewed for transfer admission holistically.
Academics
Will withdrawing from a course after add-drop (W on transcript) affect my pathway, even if I remain above the credit minimum?
Students are permitted to withdraw from a course after add-drop, as long as they maintain course enrollment for the minimum number of earned transferable credit hours.
Will the credits I earn while participating in the Rocky Top Transfer program transfer to UT?
Review our online equivalency tables to see how courses transfer to UT from other colleges & universities.
Official college transcripts are evaluated after you are admitted to UT. Credit evaluations are typically completed within four weeks with priority given to confirmed students. You may access your completed transfer credit evaluation in MyUTK under My Resources – Banner Experience New – View Academic History.
For questions about your credit evaluations, contact the transfer evaluators at utktransfereval@utk.edu or 865-946-3864.
Admission & Enrollment Next Steps
Will I be required to submit an application to UT again? When will I receive an official admissions decision from UT?
Students will not be required to submit a transfer application to UT. In November, students will be invited to complete the Vol Transfer Form to begin the transfer process. Students who applied to a non-competitive program and meet initial admission requirements after the fall semester will receive an admissions decision in early spring.
What if I applied to a competitive program at UT? What does that review process look like, and when will I receive a decision?
Students who applied to a competitive program will go through additional departmental reviews and will receive a decision later. Students will be admitted into their second choice major if they do not meet requirements for the competitive program.
Please visit our Transfer website to learn more about specific program requirements for competitive majors.
How much does the enrollment deposit cost to confirm enrollment with UT, and when do I need to confirm?
Students are required to submit a non-refundable and non-transferable $250 enrollment deposit and confirm their admissions status in their Go Vols Portal by August 1.
When do I register for orientation?
You will be able to register for the New Vol Experience, UT’s orientation program, in your Go Vols Portal after confirming enrollment. A new tab for orientation will appear when orientation registration is open. Typically, orientation registration for fall will open in March. Please keep an eye on both your personal and UT email accounts for an email from orientation letting you know when you can register.
When will I register for classes at UT, and what does that process look like?
You will meet with your academic advisor as part of orientation to be advised before you can register for classes. As an incoming transfer student, you must meet with an advisor before you can register for classes. Your first advising appointment at UT will be held via Zoom and scheduled after you complete your orientation registration. Your academic college will reach out to you directly with your appointment information.

When will I register for classes at UT, and what does that process look like?
You will receive an email from University Housing letting you know when the application for on-campus housing is available. Typically, the housing application opens in December for fall. You may request a roommate, but we cannot guarantee your roommate request will be granted due to space limitations. While it is offered, UT cannot guarantee on-campus housing for Rocky Top Transfer students. For more information, please visit housing.utk.edu.
