Frequently Asked Questions
Pathway Requirements
What are the minimum GPA and earned credit requirements I need to successfully transfer to UT?
Students are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 and must complete a minimum of 15 transferable earned credit hours if participating in the semester program, or a minimum of 24 transferable earned credit hours if participating in the year-long program.
- Earned hours are defined as credits obtained for successfully passing a course. Courses with a grade of F, withdrawals, or in progress do not count as earned hours.
Transfer credit will be granted only for college level non-remedial courses in which a grade of D- or better was earned. However, many programs require a grade of C or higher.
What if I do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement or haven’t earned the minimum number of transferable hours (15 for semester or 24 for year-long) before transferring to UT?
The Verto Vols program provides an academic experience that demonstrates college preparedness. Students who do not maintain the minimum earned credit hours and GPA requirement will not be offered admission to UT immediately after completing the Verto program. Students are welcome to apply for transfer admission after completing Verto and earning college credit.
Academics
Will withdrawing from a course after add-drop (W on transcript) affect my pathway, even if I remain above the credit minimum?
Students are permitted to withdraw from a course after add-drop, as long as they maintain course enrollment for the minimum number of earned transferable credit hours.
Will the credits I earn while studying abroad with Verto Vols transfer to UT?
All courses, faculty, credits, and official transcripts at Verto locations are delivered by Verto Education’s accredited academic provider, the University of New Haven (UNewHaven). All courses have been reviewed and will transfer to UT.
Review our online equivalency tables to see how courses transfer to UT from other colleges & universities.
Official college transcripts are evaluated after you are admitted to UT. Credit evaluations are typically completed within four weeks with priority given to confirmed students. You may access your completed transfer credit evaluation in MyUTK under My Resources – Banner Experience New – View Academic History.
For questions about your credit evaluations, contact the transfer evaluators at utktransfereval@utk.edu or 865-946-3864.
Can I study abroad with Verto Vols for a year and attend UT the following fall? If so, what do I need to do to stay in compliance with my admission offer?
Yes, students who choose to participate in the year-long Verto Vols program and meet the minimum 3.0 GPA and 24+ earned transferable credit requirements will be eligible for guaranteed transfer admission into any non-competitive program to UT the following fall.
If you are interested in the year-long Verto Vols program and have been invited to participate in Verto Vols as a pathway, please contact Meghann Overholt (moverhol@utk.edu) and Verto Education (CCATS@vertoeducation.org) for additional information.
*Please note: Students invited to participate in the Verto Vols year-long program are not eligible to participate in the semester-long program.
Admission & Enrollment Next Steps
Will I be required to submit an application to UT again? When will I receive an official admissions decision from UT?
Students will not be required to resubmit an application to UT, and their original UT application will be updated to the subsequent spring or fall term. Students who applied to a non-competitive program and meet initial admission requirements at midterms will receive an admissions decision in late fall (semester) or early spring (year).
Students who applied to a competitive program will go through additional departmental reviews and will receive a decision later. Students will be offered admission into their second choice major if they do not meet requirements for the competitive program.
Students who do not meet UT’s initial admission requirements will be reviewed upon receipt of final official transcripts, around late December 2025 or early January 2026. Students in the yearlong program will be re-reviewed in early April 2026.
How much does the enrollment deposit cost to confirm enrollment with UT, and when do I need to confirm?
Students are required to submit a non-refundable and non-transferable $250 enrollment deposit and confirm their admissions status in their Go Vols Portal by one of the following dates:
- Spring entry: January 9
- Fall entry: August 1
When do I register for orientation?
You will be able to register for the New Vol Experience, UT’s orientation program, in your Go Vols Portal after confirming enrollment. A new tab for orientation will appear when orientation registration is open. Typically, orientation registration for spring semester will open in November, and orientation registration for fall will be available in March. Please keep an eye on both your personal and UT email accounts for an email from orientation letting you know when you can register.
When will I register for classes at UT, and what does that process look like?
You will meet with your academic advisor as part of orientation to be advised before you can register for classes. As an incoming transfer student, you must meet with an advisor before you can register for classes. Your first advising appointment at UT Knoxville will be held via Zoom and scheduled after you complete your orientation registration. Your academic college will reach out to you directly with your appointment information.
For more information about advising, click here.
When do I apply for on-campus housing? Is it possible to request my roommate?
Students participating in the semester-long program and successfully complete the program will be offered guaranteed on-campus housing for Spring 2027. You will receive an email from University Housing letting you know when the application for on-campus housing is available. Typically, the housing application opens in November for spring, and in December for fall. You may request a roommate, but we cannot guarantee your roommate request will be granted due to space limitations.
While it is offered, UT cannot guarantee on-campus housing for Verto Vols participating in the year-long program. For more information, please visit housing.utk.edu.
